Gravesend 31 - Bromley 29

On the strangest of things this year, a bright sunny day, Gravesend secured maximum points and moved up into the play off positions with 5 games left to go.

This was though truly a game of two halves.  After a fairly even first 20 minutes during which the score remained nil - nil Gravesend unleashed arguably their best rugby of the season to finish the half 24-0 up.

Stan Dadson opened the scoring off the back of a forwards maul before a fine line by Ben Hope carved open the visitors defence.  Rocky Sims was next on the scorecard with another fine move before Hope rounded off the half with a searing 70m run after Bromley had kicked the ball away.

The second half started well with another Stan Dadson try to make it 31-0 and with the visiting supporters fearing the worst Gravesend then went quiet conceding ground and possession to the men in Black and Gold.   Despite their early dominance Gravesend then got on the wrong side of the referee and received three yellow cards for their troubles.

The visitors were galvanised and when others may just have given up came at Gravesend with wave after wave of attack and slowly the points came.  Any structure and control Gravesend built in the first half was going as they tired and only some heroic tackling by Man of the Match Zac Filmer kept the away team at bay.  Despite two very late scores which gave the final scoreline some respectability Bromley just ran out of time.

With no game next week Gravesend’s next fixture is away at Beckenham on 28th February.
