Brighton Blues 28 - Gravesend RFC 38
Gravesend maintained their perfect start to the season with victory on the road over last seasons runners up Brighton Blues and a well deserved victory it was.
After an opening which saw some thunderous tackles by the visiting side and Bradley Money in particular kept Gravesend on the front foot. Having found some good field position Gravesend opened the scoring on 15 minutes through George Bruce who slid between the covering defence to score under the posts.
Five minutes later the home side levelled the score after switching play and using their rapid wingers to good effect. Where Gravesend were guilty of not using their dominance upfront in previous games they did not make the same mistake again. On 27 minutes Stan Dadson came up with the ball after another successful driving maul.
Things got better 6 minutes later when this weeks Player of The Match Josh Barnes went on another mazy run and out sprinted the home defence. With another home try just before half time teams turned around with Gravesend leading 21-14.
The second half started in a similar fashion although the ferocity of the defence was taking its toll with Les Falefatu, Bradley Money and Rocky Sims all spending time for injuries on the sideline.
With debutant Fili Laqerebata entering the fray Gravesend forwards remained on top and it was no surprise when Stan Dadson scored another try and give Gravesend at least some.
The home side refused to go away and had two more scores after a period of dominance to level the scores at 28-28.
Shortly after scoring Brighton were guilty of giving away a needless penalty which Rhys Betts duly despatched and inched Gravesend away. Betts afternoon got better shortly after when he chased through a deft Bruce kick to score under the posts. With the conversion knocked over Gravesend managed the last 5 minutes impeccably keeping the opposition pinned in their own half.
Next week Gravesend travel to Battersea Ironsides
