Bromley 22 - Gravesend 36

Unlike the week before Gravesend made the most of the conditions as they returned to winning ways with a fine 36-22 victory at Bromley.

Playing down the slope and with the sun at their back Gravesend showed their intentions from the off.  With barely 2 minutes on the clock Harvey Dean collected the ball out wide to ride the defensive tackle and scamper home.

With Bromley taking a penalty for their efforts Gravesend forwards showed the effectiveness of the driving maul with Brad Money on hand to touch down.  Shortly after it was the speedy backs of Josh Barnes and Ben Hope to unleash mayhem with the latter outsprinting the home defence.

With less than 20 minutes on the clock and the score 19-3 Gravesend were guilty of resting on their laurels and and invited Bromley with some fine handling back into the game with a score 5 minutes before half time.

There was still time for Dean to add to his tally with an even better try than his first.  Swift hands by Barnes and Hope gave Dean plenty to do but he broke through two defensive tackles to take the lead out to 26-10 at half time once the conversion was taken.

As expected with the slope in their favour Bromley came out fast and furious.  They scored two well worked tries in the first 10 minutes.  On both occasions the tries probably saved Gravesend from a yellow card as they were warned for high tackles and persistent offences.

With the deficit reduced to 26-22 it was some surprise when the metronomic Bromley kicker missed three attempts from the same spot which would have given the home side the lead.

Gravesend resisted further Bromley attempts and were galvanised to play the remaining 20 minutes in the Bromley half.  Unlike Gravesend Bromley did not escape the yellow cards when the referee maintained his harsh interpretation of the tackle law.  Gravesend saved their tries for after the cards had been awarded with Harry Brooker scoring following a period of forward dominance and Ben Kite was on hand to score after a pick and go by Matt Brady to make the final scoreline 36-22.

Gravesend return to action on 14 November when they are away to Horsham.
