Gravesend 36 - 8 Old Colfeians

Gravesend’s unbeaten start to the season continued with a hard fought victory over local rivals Old Colfeians.

The final score did not tell the full story as for 60 minutes this was a tight affair with both sides guilty of waisting several opportunities.   In the last 20 minutes Gravesend showed what they were capable of and  opened up against the tiring Old Colfeians.

The opening of this game could not have started better for Gravesend as Les Falefatu collected the ball from the back of the scrum drew the defender and produced a pass out of the back of the hand for Andrew Cooke to run round and score under the posts.  Colfeians responded following some ill discipline from the men in Black and White.  Aside from a couple of Rhys Betts penalties and a couple of handling errors when it seemed easier to score the half ended 10-8 to Gravesend.

Colfeians produced their best passage of play early in the second half when following an injury to Zac Filmer only a couple of fine tackles by young Harrison Dean prevented them from scoring.

The much bigger men of Colfeians began to tire and Stan Dadson made the most of a good forwards move and when Bailey Williams pounced on a loose ball to out sprint the defence the life seemed to drain from the opposition.  Harrison Dean capped off a fine performance following a flowing move by scoring in the corner and Josh Barnes was first on the ball following a deft chip over the defence by George Bruce.  Kicks from Rhys Betts saw the score extended out to 36-8 and the bonus points secured.
