Inspiration on Our Turf: The Women’s Rugby World Cup Trophy Visits Gravesend RFC!

There are days at the club that feel "big," and then there are days that feel truly historic. Yesterday was certainly the latter.

Gravesend RFC was incredibly proud to welcome the Women’s Rugby World Cup trophy to our grounds as part of the official Community Rugby Trophy Tour. Seeing the most prestigious prize in women’s rugby sitting right here in Gravesend was a powerful reminder of how far the game has come—and where it is going next.

Fueling the Future: The Schools Touch Rugby Tournament

The trophy wasn't the only star of the show. To celebrate this special visit, GRFC hosted a local schools’ girls touch rugby tournament. The goal was simple: give girls from across the area the chance to experience rugby, have fun, and get involved in a supportive environment.

The result? Pure magic. The energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and the smiles on display from the first whistle to the last said more than words ever could.

The Growth of the Girls' Game in Numbers

If you ever needed proof that girls' rugby is exploding in popularity, you only had to look at our pitches yesterday. We were blown away by the turnout:

• 6 different age groups

• 18 competitive teams

• 190 incredible girls taking part

This isn't just a win for Gravesend RFC or the Gravesham Gladiators; it’s a testament to the growth of the sport across our entire community.

Dreaming Big

As the girls gathered around the World Cup trophy for photos, there was a palpable sense of "what if?"

The Community Rugby Trophy Tour is about more than just a piece of silverware; it’s about visibility. It’s about showing every young player that there is a path from their local club to the world stage. Who knows… looking at the talent and passion on display yesterday, we might have just hosted a future World Champion. Some of these very players may one day go on to lift that trophy for real!
